WALTER MURPHY, A Fifth of Beethoven- RHS Music Appreciation


New York songwriter and arranger Walter Murphy (born 1952) rose to popularity with this 1976 hit instrumental, a disco adaptation of some passages of the first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony. This is a clear example of 'Classical music' influencing popular culture. In this case, the 70's Disco Era.

For those of you wondering who the heck this Walter Murphy guy is, he's not just a one-hit-wonder who created the #1 hit song of 1976. He is also the composer of the Family Guy Theme!
